RMG Cranes

Making processes more efficient.

Konecranes Rail mounted Gantry Cranes are an excellent choice for intermodal terminals where containers are loaded from trucks to trains, and vice versa. The rail mounted gantry eliminates unnecessary movements and allows the land in the terminal to be utilized better.

Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes

Konecranes RMGs enable faster train operation and a faster truck service, which lowers the operational costs. RMGs are best suited for uses where getting the container on board a train quickly is more important than the lifting speed. The trolley is designed for easy maintenance, and the active load control system provides sway prevention. The innovative bogie design with realignable wheels ensures smooth gantry travel with minimum wear of the crane rails.

Technical & operational benefits

Our RMG crane technology was developed with the goal of meeting RMG owners’ needs to serve their customers efficiently and reliably while being able to operate their business profitably. The following features create a platform for a high performance crane with low maintenance costs.

  • Unique, patented Konecranes Active Load Control (ACL) system. ACL provides the most effective sway prevention system in the market and horizontal fine positioning of the spreader (the spreader can be moved up to 300 mm in the trolley/gantry traveling direction without moving the trolley/gantry). Because of the ACL, our RMG crane is extremely easy to operate even for new and inexperienced crane drivers. They can rapidly achieve the required production figures.
  • Spreader trim with hoist machinery units eliminates the need for separate special trim mechanisms.
  • No hydraulics on the crane, only on the spreader. This means better reliability, less maintenance and lower environmental risks.
  • Low energy consumption and noise level thanks to advanced drives and power regeneration.
  • Rigid and durable compact steel structure.
  • Remote diagnostic system enabling operators and service technicians to analyze the productivity and preventive maintenance needs of the cranes.
  • Optional slewing trolley for very precise load handling and load positioning for moving containers between rail cars and road vehicles.
